For over 25 years, Silver Creek Mountain Band has captured audiences in South Africa with their unique style of music and performance.

Currently performing as a duo, Silver Creek Mountain Band showcases the talents of Carnaby Roberts on acoustic guitar and that of Rod Dry on double bass. Depending on the size of the venue and the occasion, the band is capable of increasing to a 3 or 4 piece. For this, they utilise other talented musicians on various other instruments.

Their repertoire encompasses a broad spectrum of music that ranges from traditional English, Irish, Scottish and American melodies, to the works of more contemporary writers like Clapton. They specialise in songs from the 60's Folk revival period, work by artists like Donovan and Stevens ,as well as a little blues, jazz and ragtime.

Performing pure acoustic music, the sound is amplified, but guaranteed to be devoid of any electronic additives.

Because the nature of their music appeals to a broad spectrum of listeners, a wide variety of venues are suitable.

Should you think that Silver Creek Mountain Band could suit your musical requirements or should you wish more detailed information, please feel free to contact Rod Dry on 083-574-9642.

TIM'S SKETCH

This sketch is by Tim Johnson, at a gig at McGinty's in Pretoria in '95. Carnaby was accidentally locked inside the pitch dark pub one night, luckily the draught machine was working!

MORE ABOUT SILVER CREEK

Still crazy (for folk's sake) after all those years. When Rod Dry (the big guy on the left) and the Silver Creek Mountain Band came up to Pretoria from East London in 1976, they never knew it was going to be for the longest gig any South African band had ever had.
Almost 25 years later Silver Creek is still in Pretoria, entertaining audiences with their partcular brand of laid back folk, bluegrass and protest rock from the sixties and the seventies.
Over the years the band has undergone several changes, almost threatening a big band sound during the late seventies with a five-man outfit that included magic violinist Dave Tarr.
Members have come and gone with the latest change seeing George Lotz splitting off to form the Z-banned. At the moment (January 1999) Silver Creek consists of Dry and Carnaby Roberts.
Apart from retaining its cult status among Pretoria audiences, these audiences, like some of the songs, seem to stay forever young. Rod himself is pushing 56 right now, but those who come to listen to him never seem to be much older than 25. And the Pretoria girls are all as pretty as they used to be 20 years ago.
